Obviously, the most important question remains: Is the plugin going to be programmed by a (non)drummer, or played on an e-kit by an actual drummer? End result will vary tremendously based on this alone. Not sure why but to my ears I just gel with the Toontrack samples better. They couldn’t find a drum sample library that fit their needs, so they created it themselves. With a band like Periphery, virtual drums are an integral part of the songwriting process. I do use EZDrummer 2 and S2.0 and get great results. GGD created the Matt Halpern drum library for their own needs in mind.
I do love the way all the drums and cymbals sound but I can never get a mix I’m happy with using them. Always played on a high-end e-kit since being a fusion/progmetal/funk drummer.īFD3 is fine, but the machine gunning is evident, apparently regardless of expansion. I have all of the GGD expansions except for the P4 kit.
